Sinful Colors: Pearl Harbor

Happy Halloween! How about something not Halloween related, just to shake things up? You are probably sick of my halloween nails by now!

This is a super pretty polish; but not on its own. It is a clear base with a teal/light blue glitter. I love it over light blues like China Glaze For Audrey. The picture doesn't show the glitter on the nail that well, what is in the bottle is a better representation.

My only complaint about it is there isn't enough glitter; I feel like I have to layer it 3-4 times to get the effect that I really want. Otherwise it does dry and wear well. I would recommend picking it up if you like and wear light blues a lot.

So are you wearing a costume today, or are you passing on the holiday this year?

Halloween Nails: Spider Webs

Hey everyone, today is the last day of Halloween nail art and I saved my favorite for last!. This turned out nicely for the most part, I am still having a smidge of trouble handling thin brushes but I am improving I think!

I used OPI Black Oynx as the base black, Art Deco Silver for the webs and Art Deco Silver Glitter for the sparkle factor; I was going for a "wet" sort of look with the glitter. Of course you can't see it because I had to take the picture indoors; but then again I didn't put that much glitter on. I only put glitter on the main strands of the web, not on the little curved connecting bits. So what is the verdict, creepy or cute?

Halloween Nails: Candy Corn

Hey everyone! I apologize in advance for the lack of cleanup, the sun was going down fast and I needed to get the shot! I got lots of compliments on these nails! I actually really hate candy corn, it tastes like vomit to me. But they are cute little candies aren't they?

I used OPI Alpine Snow, OPI Brights Power, and Sinful Colors Canary Yellow.

Halloween Nails: Bewitching Sky

I loved the concept of this, it reminds me of a Halloween sky. The moons are okay, but I love how the stars turned out! I got a few compliments on this mani, so it must be okay, right? It reminds me of witches too, it screams Halloween to me! Does it scream Halloween to you?

The polish may be a little lumpy; but don't my cuticles look gobs better?!? I have been trying to take really good care of them, but it is hard for me because I am a bad cuticle biter when I am stressed out.

I used China Glaze Harmony as the purple and Art Deco Silver for the stars and moons.

Halloween Nails: Spiders

Aren't they cute? Well, the ones that aren't a mess! This was harder to do than I thought, but I like to post my failures to show how poorly I really do nails lol. I do like the ones on the thumb and index fingers though, they look so evil and cute!

I used Wet 'n Wild Nocturnal for the base color (I know it looks black, but it's like a dark blurple), Art Deco Silver for the webs and spiders, and OPI Big Apple Red for their evil eyes. Not my best work I know; but I liked the idea.

Halloween Nails: Pumpkins!

Hello everyone! Today is the start of a segment that I am doing through Friday, Halloween-themed nail art! I have decided that I want to do these types of things during holidays, this Halloween will feature 5 different nail art designs that I sport all week! Today we begin with pumpkins!

This didn't actually turn out as well as I had hoped. Two people thought they were strawberry nails. Does orange get more orange than that?!? I don't have round nails so it was hard to create the illusion of roundness, but I didn't want to use a dark contour color because that would look strange. So in the end I used OPI Brights Power as the orange base, Art Deco Gold Glitter to create a sparkly and slight contouring effect, and OPI Green-wich Village for the leaves on the pumpkins. Does it look like pumpkins or am I just psycho?

China Glaze Fairy Dust

Isn't this pretty? I love glitter! I love layering this over polishes. It is a holoish rainbow glitter that can spice up any mani! I particularly like it over blues and greens, but it is versatile enough to use over any color. One layer of it is more than enough to get a great glitter effect. It also has a very shiny finish; which I love! Do you love it too?

Nail Art: Confetti Nails!

Isn't this a neat one? I was totally inspired by Nora of Nail of the Week! She did a similar mani over a month ago. My technique was much like hers; I would do dots of two colors; seal with topcoat, and repeat with different colors.

I used OPI Fuchsia Fling, OPI Big Apple Red, Sinful Colors Genteel, China Glaze For Audrey, OPI Brights Power, OPI Greenwich Village, and OPI Done Out in Deco. Do you likey?

KOTD: Reverse Blue Leopard Print

Hey everyone! Today's post is a Konad design. I used OPI Russian Navy as the base color, China Glaze For Audrey as the stamping color, and OPI Alpine Snow for the dots in the leopard print. I used the leopard print from the m57 plate as well.

It didn't turn out quite how I expected; but I got lots of compliments on it. I know that one of my most popular posts is a pink leopard print nail that I did a long time ago, so I wanted to revisit the theme. It looks a bit strange though lol. People thought that I had snowflake nails!

7 Choices Tag - Blue!

The inspirational Asami from Nails by Asami tagged me for blue! She originally tagged me as green but I already did green, and she was nice enough to pick a different color for me to do! I love this tag!

1. My computer - I have a Gateway T-Series in blue, this is the computer that I blog on and such!

2. Escada Moon Sparkle - my favorite perfume! It smells like strawberries but it isn't little girly. I got it almost half-off at Nordstrom Rack.

3. China Glaze For Audrey - my favorite blue polish for many reasons!

4. Massager - my back massager that my boyfriend got me. It is from Bath and Body Works.

5. Cactus - As you may remember from the green tag that I did, I had a baby cactus in a green jar. Well this one is in a blue jar, I got it from my mother!

6. Sense and Sensibilty - Jane Austen is my favorite author, this was the first full story that she published; but not the first one she wrote.

7. Beach shoes - these shoes are the closest things that I have to flip flops! I wear them to the pool because they match my swimsuit and they were on sale for five dollars at Payless!

As I have already tagged people in my first tag post, I tag all of you who have not done this yet to do black! Be sure to link it in the comments so that I can come see it!

My Prize Goodies!

Last week I won the giveaway from the lovely Allya from Painted Tips! Thank you so much Allya! She was giving away two China Glazes of the winner's choice and I picked Harmony and Devotion from the Romantiques Collection from early this year. I just got them in the mail (I have been away for awhile) and I am really excited about them! You won't see swatches until next month because I have a special surprise segment for you all next week that takes up 5 days, so my blog will be a little thrown off for awhile, but I am really excited about the segment; I think that you will all enjoy it!

Oh, and I am dancing my happy dance because I hit 100 followers! Wow! I love you all, enjoy your Wednesday!

NOTD: Faeries in Aragon

Hello all! Sorry my names are so lame! Today is a simple layering nail of the day, it is just OPI Here Today... Aragon Tomorrow and 2 coats of China Glaze Fairy Dust, (yes, I know that I spell faery weird for someone who lives in the US, but I learned it this way and I think that it looks prettier that way).

I think that two coats was a bit much and it turned a little chunky. Now I know that I need to just do one coat at a time! :) Oh, I am sorry about the blurry picture; but on the bright side it shows off the glittery goodness better!

Art Deco Silver

Today's review is on the Art Deco regular Silver color. This is a very frosty silver color, so using it as a filling color is tough to do because you can really see the brush strokes. This is very good however as a striper polish because it is very opaque and goes on right in one coat. It dries very quickly and creates really fun effects for your nails! Below is the close-up of my thumbnail sporting the color; I apologize that it is a bit blurry!

You can find these polishes at some drugstores and a few colors at Forever 21. My experience with the line so far has been a great one!

"You Make Me Smile Award!"

Hello everyone! I have been tagged by the awesome Mighty Lambchop from Lambchop Mobile. Her blog really makes me smile, she has the cutest game-day manis and is such a great internet friend to me!

Now first is the song that makes me smile, and although a lot of songs make me smile, I just love this one. Yes, you are all going to think that I am weird, but I am super immersed in the Irish/Scottish American culture. My dad even plays the bagpipes, and well to boot. He won 2 medals in his first competition, a gold and a silver! Now this band doesn't have music videos; they go around to different festivals so here is a video from one of their live performances. So here is my favorite bagpiping band, the Wicked Tinkers playing Wallop the Cat, thank you to Liz whotold me how to embed the video! :)

And now to tag blogs that make me smile :) I want to feature some bloggers who are fantastic and not getting enough attention IMO.

Amused Polish - She has fantastic swatches and I love to read her posts. She has only been blogging a month but her blog is great!

Lemming Monster - only adds to my lemming list! She has great polishes and lovely nails; I love her posts!

Short 'n Chic - Betsy and Stephanie have a really great blog, they post very often and they do great swatches! They swatch brands I have never heard of and some of the best polishes on the market, and they are so funny!

THE Mani Blog - She posts super cute manis and does fantastic nail art; her blog is really inspiring!

If you haven't been tagged yet, feel free to do your own! Love you all, I'll have another post tommorow! :)

Nail Art: Polka Dots!

Today's mani is a fun one but a simple one, it is just white nails with red polka dots! It kind of reminds me of Minnie Mouse lol. I used OPI Alpine Snow and OPI Big Apple Red and made the dots with a dotting tool.

This is actually from a really long time ago (thus why my thumb nail is so long, it broke a few weeks ago) but it got backlogged. I didn't wear this for very long; but I still liked it. White nails simply don't suit me.

Sinful Colors: UFO

This is a swatch of the beautiful Sinful Colors UFO. It is a lot like Hottie; only orange instead of blue. I find that the pigmentation is a lot better; and who doesn't love glitter? I am not a sheer polsih fan so I prefer to layer this over polishes for a sparkly effect.

This is jelly-based so it doesn't dry very quickly; but it does wear pretty well. I love the sparkles! Do you have this polish; and if so do you like it?

KOTD: Blue Flowers and Vines

Hey everyone, I hope that you are all having a great week. This is a mani I sported last week, I used OPI Russian Navy as the base color and China Glaze For Audrey as the stamping color. I really like that For Audrey is a little sheer, it helps it blend into the tone of the base color better in my opinion. I used the m20 plate as well. Do you like it? :)

How to Remove Glitter Nail Polish | eHow.com

Hi everyone!

Haha~ Adding on to my previous post, this is how you gonna remove glitter nail polish! Hope it helps =)

How to Remove Glitter Nail Polish

Glitter nail polish can be particularly hard to remove because the grains of glitter adhere to fingernails more firmly than regular nail polish. You must use special care when removing this type of polish or you can scrape the nails as you rub off the glitter.

Things You'll Need:

  • Nail polish remover
  • Large cotton balls
Step 1

Cotton balls work best for removing glitter polish because they cling to the grains of glitter better than smooth makeup padsPlace a cotton ball firmly on top of the open bottle of nail polish remover. You can set the lid aside. Make sure that the cotton ball fully covers the opening of the bottle. If it does not, then use two cotton balls.

Step 2

Upend the bottle of nail polish remover while holding the cotton ball in place. This will soak the cotton balls with nail polish remover.

Step 3

Press the cotton ball on a fingernail for a count of 20. Count slowly and steadily. Do not move the cotton ball at all while you are pressing on it.

Step 4

Slowly pull the cotton ball off the edge of the fingernail. Most if not all of the glitter polish should adhere to the cotton ball. If there is any left, wipe gently but firmly again.

Step 5

Repeat this process with a new cotton ball for each finger. You will use somewhere between 10 and 20 cotton balls, depending on their size.

[pictures] China Glaze Specialty - Preppy Pink and Cosmic

Hi ladies,

I've just changed my nail colors. Here's a quick review on China Glaze Specialty collection.

As you can see in the picture, i'm using China Glaze - Preppy Pink (CG80388) as the base and China Glaze - Cosmic (80399) as the tip. Both are all glitter colors. I love the pink, very sweet and i painted 2 coats of it. As for the black tip, you cant really see the glitters unless you look closely.

However, this doesn't really seems that lasting. I've colored my nails 2 days ago and now the tips are starting to chip a little. Maybe i colored too many layers already? lol..

To use these pretty glittering colors, there's also a high price to pay. No.. not as in the $$$ but it's when you have to REMOVE the colors. Why? It's sooooo hard to remove!! Maybe it's the big and rough glitters that's kinda stuck on your nails? You really need PATIENCE. Anyway, hope you like the picture =)

If you would like to pre-order the colors, please join my spree.
Grab these colors at SGD$9.00/bottle!

Art Deco Silver Glitter

Today's post will be a review of the Art Deco in the Silver Glitter color. These polishes are really cool in that they have very thin brushes, which is really nice for nail art! The base of the polish is clear, but it is packed with glitter! I love it! You can see the swatch there on my thumbnail tip, the close up is below. It applies really well and dries really fast. The only problem that I have with it is that the glitter is super hard to remove; but it's worth it! These are very cheap (~$2 USD). I found mine at my local drug/grocery store, but this color and two other are also available at Forever 21.

Nail Art: Pretty in Plaid

Hey everybody! Today's post is something I sported a couple of weeks ago, I decided that I really needed to try plaid nails. I think that it turned out pretty (sorry about the lack of cleanup!). I used China Glaze For Audrey as the base color, and Art Deco polishes in Blue Glitter and Silver Glitter for the stripes. I will need to experiment with this idea more; we'll see. Does it look ok? What do you think?

OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees Suede

Hola! Today I will be reviewing OPI Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees Suede. I actually liked this more than I thought I would. I decided that I should buy and try one, so after searching swatches of the Suede collection I decided upon this one.

This polish is hard to apply. It dries really fast and it is very thick and gloopy. Plus the brush was all jacked up, so I am going to have to pull it out, clean it and fix it. Although it is a toughy to apply, it is gorgeous isn't it? I love it best with the top coat on it!

I honestly see no reason to not use a base coat; it helps it last longer and doesn't effect the finish. Use a base coat to your heart's content! I love this polish and I will be wearing it often this fall and winter. Do you like it best matte or shiny? I love the shiny!

Giveaway Rundown!

Hey everyone, there a couple of new giveaways that I want to spread the word about!

First is Evil Angel from Black Nail Polish and Lipgloss, she is giving away a kick@$$ hairclip from Artisanagogo. It looks so freaking cool! But be warned; it's a US only contest so if you are international you are out of luck :(. Contest runs through Oct. 18th, click here to check it out!

Second is Nihrida who is doing her very first giveaway on her blog! It is full of great nail polish and tons of extra goodies! It is an international contest and it ends October 25th at midnight (Slovanian Time). Click here to check it out!

Well that's all that I've got for you today! Happy Monday!

NOTD: Red Holoish Glittahs!

Hey everyone! Today's post is a simple NOTD; I used OPI Big Apple Red under OPI DS Reflection. I like using the red base under it because it is less sheer-looking and gives it a more cheery tone. I like it! My only problem with reds is that I have a really tough time removing reds from my nails for some odd reason. That is why on some of my pictures the skin around my nails is really red, it is from red nail polish! I wish that DS Reflection was more holo-y though. Hmm..oh well, it is still really pretty!

102nd Post!

Hello everyone! This is my 102nd post, and the day before yesterday was actually my 3 month anniversary and 100th post for this blog! Oh the nostalgia! I actually meant to do this for the 100th post, but I kind of forgot about it, so it is a little late. Feel free to take this chance to check out some of my early postsfrom July, I was not very talented (thus the name Naive Nails!). I started this blog when I realized that I was becoming obsessed with nail polish, and I wanted to archive everything that I learned and my experiments and journey throught nail polish. Literally every polish I own is archived on this blog except for some recent ones that I haven't gotten to review for you yet!

I feel like I have really improved at nail polish, although I am nowhere near perfect. I apply it better now and I take MUCH better pictures than I used to! Again, I am still not perfect but I don't claim to be. Thank all of you for reading and following; it's nice to know that people enjoy and are helped from my ramblings about chemicals that I place on my nails to make them more aesthetically pleasing. I also really want to thank those whose blogs I read, you guys have taught me so much! Sorry, I just really felt like being sappy and cheesy today, I love you all and regular posting will resume tomorrow!

KOTD: Zebra Tips

Hello! Today's post is a variation of the popular zebra print, I Konaded the tips of my nails with the m57 plate. I used OPI Black Onyx as the base color and OPI Alpine Snow as the stripes. I like how it turned out; and my boyfriend LOVED it! I will be playing with this pattern more! I got lots of compliments!

I flew home last night! This is my fall break so I am finally back in my home state at my parent's house and it is so nice to be home! I really needed the break! I will be on my computer a lot this week just lounging in front of the TV and being lazy for a week! I even got a week ahead on my homework so that I have nothing to do all week! Sigh...perfect!

The Great Qtica Experiment!

Hey everyone! Today I will be reviewing the well-known Qtica Nail Growth Treatment. As you may know, i broke my thumbnail a few weeks ago and I was forced to cut it very very short. I decided to get this treatment and see how well it really works. I took a picture the first day and one two weeks later. Qtica claims that it can help your nail grow up to 1/8 of an inch (~ 4 mm) within two weeks. In the end, my nail grew 3/16 of an inch, which is not too bad! If you look at some of my early posts you will see how slowly my nails grow!

This stuff is on the spendy side, it goes for about $12 USD for the small size (.25 fl oz.)and $20 for the big size (.5 fl oz.). I am only going to use this when I break a nail to save money! It does pretty well as a base coat, but I like my OPI Nail Envy better.

Below are my pictures, the first one is day 1 and the last one is day 14. I apologize for the staind and dry cuticles and leftover nail polish, acetone is drying out my skin and it is hard to clean off the nail when the skin has cracked open; acetone stings!

10th Picture Tag!

I was tagged by the wonderful Pam from Nail-E-Glance to do this. I was never tagged when it was popular but this is an older tag, and frankly I am not going back through posts to see who was and wasn't tagged, so if you haven't done this tag yet; please do and post the link in my comments so that I can come see it! The rulez:
1. Open your pictures folder.
2. Open the first folder.
3. Go to the 10th picture in the folder and post it!

Here is my picture:

Isn't he cute!?! This is a baby raccoon that my mother rescued a few years ago from under my uncle's porch. Something happened to his mom and she never came back; he was the only survivor out of his siblings. They found him when the poor thing fell into the pool! Well of course it was Friday afternoon so we couldn't call animal control; so we took care of him for a couple of days until we could give him to a lady who was approved to rehabilitate racoons. He was so precious and fun; boy did he love cat formula!

Of course he was a wild animal and I do not recommend taking care of a wild animal without really knowing what you are doing. We never pet him (thus the gloves used to hold him) and never came into skin to skin contact; especially since we had other animals. You don't know where wild animals have been and you don't know what they could be carrying!

Nail Art: Ballet Slippers

Hey everyone! Today's nail art was my first foray into polishes with super thin brushes, which are awesome! They are fantastic for nail art! My local grocery store actually carries almost the whole line of Art Deco Nail Polishes, so I will slowly be accumulating them. This look uses OPI Alpine Snow as a base, OPI Tutti Frutti Tonga as the pink, and Art Deco Silver Glitter as the lines of glitter.

This nail reminds me of ballet slippers, the light pink and the sparkly lace-up. I did ballet when I was four for about 4 months, it was my replacement for preschool since there were no good ones in the area and I already knew how to read. My first memory was actually in my ballet class. I got kicked in the nose by some girl and I yelled at her and chewed her out because I am (still) very prone to nosebleeds, although I did not get one! I was also the only one who couldn't do a cartwheel.......I should stop now hahaha!

China Glaze Ruby Pumps

This. Polish. Is. Amazing! I love this red, this is officially my new favorite nail polish! It is just stunning, it is a dark red with gorgeous red glitters that has an almost flakie quality to it. The hype is completely deserved! It applies pretty well, dries within a reasonable amount of time, and is so glossy!

It has been permanently assigned to my toes for the rest of the month at least. You see, as I walk along my college campus; people give me really weird looks when I fail at discreetly looking at my nails. It is SO hard to not stare at this polish for hours at a time! So, its on my toes, because I can't see the other people if I am staring at my feet! The middle picture is a picture of it inside; it shows the glitter the best, but the first picture is more like real life only less glittery! The last picture is it matted, needless to say it is a sin to matte this polish!
