Sinful Colors: Ladies in Waiting

This color is a super pale lavender, as you can see in the picture it is almost white. It shows up more lavender in real life though. It is very very frosty so I don't tend to wear it very often. A big plus side about this polish is that it doesn't chip easily on me. I weed and do dishes everyday yet I only had a couple of minor chips after four days, not bad! If you hate super frosty colors don't get this one, but it is a nice color and wears well.

Nail Art: Dizzying Dots

This took forever for me to do! I like how it turned out, it is intricate when you look up close but when you are far away they look like the nail polish I am wearing is almost duochrome, which is pretty cool! I did this look several days ago, but I haven't taken this manicure off yet! I only have a couple of minor chips. I did the dots with my Loew-Cornell brush. The base color I am wearing here is Sinful Colors Ladies in Waiting and the dots are in Sinful Colors Jamboree, reviews of these polishes will be up soon!

OPI Big Apple Red

This is a classic polish, a color that any girl needs, be it this brand or others. It is very pinup, classic, and goes with everything. It is a crème cherry red color that goes on opaque in one coat, but I like to do two coats for good measure. I have found that it does stain my nails slightly and is a bit of a pain to get off if you don’t use a base coat. It is a good polish though, and I love the formula, it is very easy to apply, especially with the Pro-Wide brush that it comes with. I personally love this polish on my toes, but I have it on my hands too right now! Great quality, great color.

Sinful Colors: California

Finally, this polish is getting a proper review! Please ignore the nail stains! As you can clearly see, this is a very sheer sparkly polish. This polish is a pale baby pink with pink sparkle and a little bit of a green sparkle. I like to use this to layer over other nail polishes for shimmer; it doesn’t do well on its own. (I used it in the previous post) I do like it though, and it is surprisingly easy to take off; for a glitter that is. This is great for a unique French or American manicure, or for toes. I like it and I would get it again.

Nail Art: Reverse French Tips

I thought that I would try something fun, so I did reverse French tips with red tips. It was a bit hard to do, but it was fun! I think that I didn't do too badly for my first try! I used a piece of paper to try and get the lines as straight as I could. I used Sinful Colors California as the sparkly pink base color, and OPI Big Apple Red as the tip color. Reviews of each of these polishes will be up soon!

Rant: Where is the Creativity OPI!?!

The wonderful All Lacquered Up has posted recently about an upcoming OPI collection featuring “suede” textured polish. I assume that this is to cater to those who like the matte trend for fall but don’t wish to fully commit to chalky matte by adding shimmer to the mix. The OPI Suede Collection seemed intriguing, until I saw what colors were being released. ALU named the 6 colors to be released, and three of them were released with the very recent OPI Matte Collection. Seriously? How many versions of the same polish do we really need?!? The repromotes are Russian Navy, Lincoln Park After Dark, and You Don’t Know Jacques; their original versions are also in the permanent collection.

I can understand repromoting popular colors in different textures to help sell them, but they could have picked different colors for each collection. Nobody wants to buy three of the same nail polish in different textures unless they are obsessed with the color. In this economy these polishes are probably going to be skipped over more than purchased. I know that I won’t be purchasing any of the matte or suede collections, I will instead buy top coats that create the effect out of the polishes, it’s cheaper and easier that way. Sorry OPI, I love you, but I cannot justify these polishes.

Creative Nail Design: Solar Oil

In trying to break a nasty addicting habit I have of biting off my cuticles I decided that moisturizing would help keep me from doing that and making my nails look like crap. I stole this from my mother, I will warn you that this stuff is very spendy, but it works like a dream. It moisturizes and strengthens the nails, and it is not greasy and leaves no residue. It soaks into the skin really well and smells really good.

The one pictured is super small; I don't even know if they still come in that size. My mom bought this years ago, told me not to use it because it was so expensive, and then she never used it. They do make bigger onesnow , and there is now a balm version as well, which may work better for you depending on the types of products that you like and work best for you. This is a good investment if you are like me and have very dry cuticles and skin around your nails.

OPI Done Out in Deco

I wasn't sure what to think of this color when I first saw it. I wanted to get Do You Lilac It? but no one in this city seems to carry that color :/. I was curious about the color so I decided to get it, and I actually really love it!

I must say that I have never tried an OPI nail polish before this one, and I am impressed with the quality and how smoothly it applied. I love the brush as well, although the one that came with this nail polish was a little kinky, so I will have to fix that. I have been wearing this for 3 days now and it is only just starting to chip, which is impressive considering that I pulled weeds, washed dishes and waxed cars with this polish on.

Done Out in Deco is a pretty dusty lavender with a light grey undertone. It is really pretty on my nails. This color is really versatile, it is pale enough to wear in the spring, pigmented enough to wear in the summer, and demure enough to wear in the fall and winter. This is a year-round polish!

Mini Nail Haul

I went to my local JCPenney Salon and purchased these two OPI nail polishes; Done Out in Deco and Big Apple Red. So far I really like both of these and reviews and swatches will be posted within the next couple of days. These are my first two actual polishes from OPI and I really like them! I plan on buying more when I travel to a different state on August 1st and go to an Ulta, so a bigger nail haul is in the near future!

Generic 3-Sided Buffer

The pictured product to the left is a 3-sided buffer board that I bought at my local grocery store. It was 49 cents, I got it because my Sephora was out of all of their buffers. Yeah. I bought this out of desperation and I must say that it is not too bad! You can tell after one use that it has been used, I will probably destroy it within a month or so. It does a decent job of buffing the lines out of my nails; not a perfect job, but a decent one. The orange is the coursest grit, the white is the medium grit, and the other side is grey and it has a very fine grit for a polished look. I am sorry that I don't remember what brand it is exactly, but it was pretty generic. All in all not bad for 49 cents!

Nail Art: Purple Kisses

My boyfriend thought that the dots looked like little kisses! This is my second attempt at nail art, I think that it looks ok. I used Sinful Colors Fiji as the base and Sinful Colors Ladies in Waiting as the light purple for the dots. I made the dots with my Loew-Cornell brush. I used OPI Nail Envy as a basecoat and Sally Hansen Hard as Nails as a topcoat. Enjoy!

Sinful Colors: Fiji

Fiji is a dark, forboding violet in the bottle, which made me very excited to try it out. Sadly, it did not apply like that on the nail. This picture was taken after three coats of the stuff, and it still only turned out a medium blue-violet. I like that color too, but I was expecting more out of this polish, especially after my great encounters with other polishes from this line. I wanted a deep dark purple in two coats, not a sheer medium blue/purple after three.

As you can see in the picture, you can still see the tips of my nails, which does not make me happy. I am an opaque nail polish girl. Very disappointing, I would not purchase it again.

Sephora Crystal Nail File

As is somewhat common knowledge, crystal or glass nail files are the best type for your nails. They seal the layers of the nail better, which helps to prevent peeling, and they leave your nails very smooth. You can also use them back and forth instead of one direction across the tip of the nail.

Many nail care brands carry crystal nail files, from Revlon to OPI, but the one that I chose was Sephora's. It comes in pink and purple, I got the purple. It is only a file on one side, with the other side being smooth, and it has a very fine grit. It works really well, and I really like it! The plastic sleeve that it comes in is kind of crappy, but it is a good file. It rinses off very easily and is easy to maintain.

Nail Art: Simple Dots

Here is my first attempt at nail art, it is really just some dots in a diagonal line, nothing special. It was fun to try though, and it is actually a bit harder than it looks! I used the Loew-Cornell brush from my previous post to make these dots; I think that it did a good job! I just suck at it hahaha! I used two Sinful Colors nail polishes, the base is Burgundy Apple and the dots are Bronze. My basecoat was OPI Nail Envy and my topcoat was Sally Hansen: Hard as Nails. Enjoy!

Loew-Cornell 10/0 7670

I found this brush at Michael's craft store for $5.99 + tax. I must say that this brush is fantastic for nail art! I am really impressed. It is a very small brush with a very fine tip which is great for detailing. Not that I am any good at nail art haha! It is an angled brush, which makes it easier for me to control, and it comes with a bristle cover to protect the bristles from fraying, which are synthetic bristles.
So far I have really only used it for dotting but soon I will use it for other details. I am trying to figure out how to clean it effectively, it is a little stiff after I washed it out. Any suggestions? Anyways, I really like this little brush and it makes me want to go buy more brushes to do nail art with! Overall a great brush to use for this purpose for a decent price, I quite like it! :)

Hi Ladies!

Looks like not many people are aware of the blog event going on... Haha! Just in case you dont know what's happening in WowPrettyNails you can click here to find out more about the event.

Basically for Blog Event #2 is to share your spree experience with WowPrettyNails.
Number of participants: 2 (Ming Hui and Geraldine)

Here's the original entries submitted:

Subject: Blog Event #2
Name: Qiu Minghui
Spree Participated: #22
Comments:
This is the third time I buy from her and the reason being she’s very friendly and a very good spree organiser as she will regularly update her blog on the status of the nail polish. Therefore, she’s very reliable. Not only that, she also organise events to reward her spree-ers and to keep them and honestly speaking, not a lot of spree organisers are considerate enough to really want to keep all their spree-ers and she is by far, the only one I know. That’s why I recommend my colleagues to buy from her blog too. She’s really one of the best spree organisers I met…
This spree that I took part in, most of the orders are from my colleagues. I emailed my order to her quite late and up till the moment when the spree was closed, I have yet to transfer my money to her because I totally forgot about it. But she was really very good because even though the spree closed already, she waited for me to transfer my money over… I was so touched by her actions. She was really sincere in her this online business and she really put in a lot of effort in it. She treated everyone (spree-ers and potential spree-ers) with sincerity too. It’s actually quite obvious from the way she answered enquiries on her blog.
I guess I had written a lot already… Too naggy… Haha….
Thanks Estella!! For being such a GREAT spree organiser!!!

Cheers,
Minghui

Sinful Colors: Burgundy Apple

This is an okay picture of the nail polish, the most accurate part is the ring finger nail as to how it shows up in real life. It is a very dark, vampy color, kind of like blood. I really like that! It has a bit of a sparkle to it, but you really have to be up close to see. The sparkle is the same color as the polish, so it is not that special.

It is a bit sheer for such a dark color but it is 90% opaque in two coats. Great for dark nails for fall and winter, even for halloween for some costumes. Not a bad polish at all, but not one that I wear often. Great quality considering the bottle is $2!

OPI Nail Envy Original

I researched this and I combed through reviews on Makeupalley. I finally bit the bullet and shelled out $18 for a 15 ml bottle of strangely colored gunk at my local JCPenney Salon. It was so worth it! I am still baffled at how strong my nails are, they barely bend! And that is really saying something considering the sad state of my peeling brittle nails that couldn't grow out more than a few millimeters.

It is called OPI Nail Envy Original, and it is my new favorite product. The little fold up pamphlet in the box claims that this stuff can be used as a base coat and as a top coat, it makes for a good base coat. My nail polish chips a lot slower, although I still get tip wear. This stuff is pretty shiny too, not as shiny as the Sally Hansen topcoat in my previous post, but pretty close.

This stuff kinda smells though. Like nail polish that really needs to be thrown out. It does come with the awesome Pro-Wide brush though, which is very nice. All in all a fantastic product, I am surprised that I don't hear more about it. I have to use so little of the stuff that it will last me at least a year. I love this stuff! :)

8ty8beauty spree #23 - updates

Hi ladies,

Thank you for your patience.

Finally our orders are on the way! There are some out of stocks. I will drop you an email if you are affected. So if you dont hear from me means good news =)

I have make many efforts to locate but till date it's still not found and did not receive any return mail. I strongly encourage spree-ers to opt for registered post for a peace of mind or opt for meet up (min of 5 orders still apply). I sincerely apologise to the affected spree-ers for all the inconvenience caused as it's really not within my control due to unforseen circumstances.
Thank you for your kind understanding =)

Sally Hansen "Hard as Nails" Strengthening Topcoat

This is a review for a topcoat that I have been using for awhile now called Sally Hansen Hard As Nail Strengthening Topcoat. It comes in a 13.3 ml bottle and I picked it up on sale for about $5. I really like this topcoat; it leaves my nails ridiculously shiny. I don't think that it really strengthens that much, but it does pretty weel for a topcoat. The one problem that I have with this is that it makes my nail polish peel. Like in big nasty chunks. It also doesn't resist chipping as well as I would like, but I love how shiny it makes my nails! The brush is really great too, it is a lot like the OPI Pro-Wide brush; it is a flat stacked brush. All in all a decent cheap topcoat, although I don't think that I will repurchase it. I may have found better, but you will have to wait a few days for that review! ;)

Sinful Colors: Genteel

Today I wore Sinful Color's Genteel nail polish. It is a soft, average creme pink that is quite sheer. It has no shimmer or sparkle as you see in the picture. As you can see in the picture, the tips of my nails are still showing, and that is after three coats. It is not quite opaque enough for me, but I do love the color. I later added another polish, a Sinful nail polish called California, which will get a review of its own soon. I put a stripe of it sown the center of each of my nails to help detract from the tips showing. All in all an okay anil polish, nice for the price but I don't think that I would purchase it again due to the sheer texture of it.

Nail Haul!

Yesterday I went shopping and got a few nail things. If I am going to start taking good care of my nails, I am going to need the right equipment, right? I bought OPI Nail Envy Original, a Sephora Glass Nail File, a cheap buffer board from the grocery store, and a Loew-Cornell 10/0 7670 angled brush in case I want to try nail art; I was by Micheal's anyways.

Yesterday was the first time that I have gone into my local Sephora, shocking I know! We only recently got one and I was giving it time to stock up on stuff. I don't like that Sephora. The people working there were ok, but I didn't get the nail buffer that I wanted and I was mad. It's one thing to not have it in stock (in either size mind you), but when you have 10 used testers out for it is upsetting. So in my revenge I went to the grocery store and bought a 79 cent one, and I must say that it works pretty well so far! I will do reviews on each individual product after I have used them for awhile.

Sinful Colors: Bronze

Today my nails are painted in Sinful Colors Bronze nail polish as you can see in the picture to the left. This color is an orange-toned bronze. It applies opaque in two coats and holds up well in terms of chipping, and that is saying something considering that I wash dishes and pull weeds all day! I like the Sinful Colors nail polishes because the formula is really good for the price, they run for about $2 and I get mine at Walgreens. 15 ml comes in the bottle and I love how big of a color range they have, they have everything from nudes to glitters! I can't rave enough about this line! This was actually the first nail polish that I ever bought, I bought it for halloween and I thought that I would just use it for that but I love the color!

New To the World of Nails

I will formally introduce myself, I am gildedangel and I am pretty new to the world of nails. I am just starting to become interested in this world, I have been in the world of makeup for a few years now and now I am branching out to nails. I have never taken good care of my nails and now I am going to haha. This blog is mostly to document for myself and anyone else who may be interested with my experience with nail products, problems and anything else. Maybe if I get good at it I might start doing nail tutorials in the future, but that is probably not going to happen for awhile! This blog will be a mix of things and hopefully it will be interesting to some of you. Welcome to the site!
