How to have great and healthy nails?

Great, Healthy Nails
  • Apply speed-dry nail polish when time is of the essence.
  • Drink lots of water. Keep your body hydrated everyday to maintain healthy nails.
  • Your fingernails count on you to be responsible with your health and your diet. Unless instructed otherwise by your physician, increase your daily doses of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, calcium, folic acid, protein, Vitamin B12, and zinc.
  • Touch up your manicure on a daily basis to prevent chips and cracks.
  • Your nails depend on you to maintain a healthy diet. Take in lots.
Nail polish tips:
  • Finish with a clear topcoat to add gloss and sheen.
  • Start with a base coat to strengthen and protect the nails.
  • Store nail polish in the refrigerator to maintain a smooth consistency.
  • Try not to store nail polish in a room that becomes cold. The nail polish bottles may break without warning, leaving you with a big mess.

How To Get A French Manicure

How To Get A French Manicure

STEP 1
It's essential to prepare your hands and nails before applying nail polish. First, exfoliate your hands by massaging them using a small amount of body scrub. Rinse with water and dry thoroughly. One of the main causes of chapped hands is not drying them properly after washing.

STEP 2
File your nails. If they are brittle or tend to split, keep them flat across the top with smooth, rounded edges. When filing, move in one direction, from outer corner to centre-sawing movements can damage the nail plate. Choose a nail file with a fine surface that glides over the nail.

STEP 3
Coat hands in a layer of sweet almond oil, to norish and soften, then wrap in a warm towel and relax for 15 minutes. Unwrap, and gently push back cuticles using a rubber hoof stick (available from most chemists). Never use cuticle clippers, as they can nick the skin. Rinse hands with warm water and dry thoroughly to remove any oil residue.

STEP 4
Apply one coat of base coat over your entire nail and allow a couple of minutes to dry. This will help strengthen the nail. Some products also level fine ridges and imperfections, leaving a smooth surface to apply polish. There's a wide range of base coats to choose from.

STEP 5
For a square look, paint a straight line across the tips; for a rounded appearance, follow the curve of the nail; and to get a pointed style, paint in from each side to the centre. Some manicure kits include sticky strips to use as a guide. when applying, lay your hand on a flat surface and keep the ball of your painting hand steady and keep the ball of your painting hand steady by resting it on the same surface. Leave to dry.

STEP 6
Finally, apply a coat of translucent shell-pink polish over the entire nail to seal the whitened tip and complete the look. Allow 10 minutes for it to dry. For extra shine and protection, apply a clear, glossy top coat.

Nail care tips: DO's and DONT's

Nail Care Tips: The DO'S

DO drink plenty of water each day. It's good for your general health and a well hydrated body contributes to healthy nails. Cracked nails may indicate the need for greater fluid intake.

DO apply varnish remover before applying nail polish. This removes any grease on the surface of the nail and gives extra life to the nail polish, so make sure you do this regardless of whether there is old polish on your nails or not.

DO use a good quality buffer preferably once a week, no more than twice a week. Be sure not to buff too vigorously and not for too long to avoid damaging the nail. Just a brief gentle buff before applying nail polish can help prevent the polish from peeling due to a rough or uneven surface on the nail.

DO use a soft nail file rather than an emery board. Emery boards can be too rough and damage the nail easily unless used with great care. Better to use a soft cushion nail file and wash it regularly for repeated use. It almost goes without saying, metal nail files are a definite NO NO!

DO wear protective gloves when doing any work that requires the hands to be submerged in water or come in contact with chemicals. Preferably use gloves with a cotton lining so they remain dry inside. Fungus loves a moist environment.

DO give attention to the cuticles regularly, using a moisturizing cream often to avoid the cuticles from drying out. Overgrown and ungroomed cuticles can adversely affect nail growth.

Nail Care Tips: The DON'TS

DON'T file backwards and forwards as this can cause splits in the nails which become even worse if water penetrates after hand washing. Rather use a gentle one way stroking action with the file along with a little patience.

DON'T file the corners of the nail as this can weaken them and make them more susceptible to breaking. File straight across in a way that produces a soft, oval shape. Pointed nails break easily.

DON'T file nails when they are wet. Make sure they are completely dry.

DON'T use varnish remover and reapply nail polish more than once or twice a week. Preferably select a varnish remover that contains moisturizers to avoid the nails drying out.

DON'T use your nails to scratch hard surfaces, pick at an object, remove staples, or serve as a digging tool. Just take a minute to get a proper tool for the job and avoid sacrificing your nails!

DON'T over manicure the cuticles as this can damage them causing them to thicken and overgrow.

DON'T ever cut the cuticles or use metal or sharp objects to push them back. Purchase the proper tool for the job, an Orange Stick. Hold it at an angle and gently push the cuticles back without damaging them. Using a cuticle remover first will help make the job easier and avoid damaging this sensitive skin.

Pretty flower in 4 easy steps

Here's one of my favorite and easy to do nail arts. Simple and girlish ;)

1: Polish the nail with pink color.

2. Apply the top portion of the nail with glitter.

3. Form five 3-D white flower petals with acrylic (you can try using white nail polish and use the nail art brush to draw it too)

4. Add rhinestones to the center of the flower and below.

Welcome

Hi everyone! If you are a fan of nail art or nail designs, you are at the right place. Many of us do paint our nails. Well, it don't have to be any special occasions then you paint it right? Why just paint one color where you can add a little bits and pieces to enhance it?

I'm not a professional manicurist and i seldom visit them (oops) because i prefer to do them myself. of course, don't expect it to turn out like a professional lah... but i enjoyed doing it and am satisfied. Actually, all these designs can be easily found online and that's where i learn. I'm gonna share with you some of my favorite and "not so difficult" nail arts. Enjoy~ =)
